A stunning bird necklace and earrings made by the Zuni artist Derrick Edaakie. The Edaakie family is famous as one of the founders of fine Zuni mosaic inlay jewelry. Derrick's father Dennis was one of the early creators depicting birds and animals using many different stones such as turquoise, abalone shell, mother of pearl, coral, jet and many others. Derrick has carried on this fine tradition and in many ways has exceeded his "teachers".
This necklace and earring set depicts a variety of birds---snowy owl, hummingbird, roadrunner, cardinal and bluejay. It is made in squash blossom style with two strands of sterling silver beads with colorful birds with inset stones of different varieties and colors---turquoise, coral, jet, shell, mother of pearl to name a few. The bottom naja (crescent) has a lovely hummingbird in the center. I love the etching detail that makes the birds look like they have feathers.
Necklace and earrings are signed D. Edaakie.
Necklace length from end to end: 24"; so it has a 12" drop
Bird coins and earrings are approximately the size of a quarter--- 1" diameter
Naja is 2" wide x 2.25" high
Earrings are pierced post style and are also signed
We have seen one other necklace like this for sale and the price was $3900.
